Obituary For Lillie Bell Benton

Mrs. Lillie Bell Benton, one of thirteen children, was born April 8, 1921 in Shady Dale, Georgia to proud parents, the late Reverend and Mrs. G.W. Alexander, Sr. She attended the public schools of Jasper County and was an avid basketball and volleyball player. She dedicated her life to helping others and was a faithful servant to the A.M.E. Church.

She was married to Mr. Troy Robinson and this union was blessed with six children.

She moved to Atlanta and joined St. Philip A.M.E. Church and served on the Trustee Board, Class Leader (No. 12), Stewardess Board, Women's Missionary Society, member of Choir Number One, Nutrition Director for the day care center, and Pastor's favorite cook. She dutifully served her church and her church family.

She later joined Antioch A.M.E. Church at her brother's suggestion (the late Reverend Robert L. Alexander) and continued to serve her church family as a member of the Women's Missionary Society, Stewardess Board, and Pastor's Aide Board.

Mrs. Benton leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Leila Cochran (Arthur), Barbara Robinson, Shirley Benton-Lee (James), Mary Robinson, and Willie Robinson (Joanna); sister, Nellie Russell; twenty-four grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Annie C. Henderson and her husband, Mr. Rochelle Benton.
