Obituary For Ms. Mattie Sue Lumpkin

Mrs. Mattie Sue Lumpkin was born December 18, 1938 to the late Mr. Bennie Lumpkin and the late Mrs. Sue Lumpkin in Athens, Georgia. She grew up in Morris Town on Lyndon Ave, today known as New Town.

Mattie loved the Lord and was raised in a loving Christian home. At an early age she joined Shiloh Baptist Church and continued her worshiping at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

She was educated in Athens-Clarke County Public school system and later graduated from Athens High Industrial School in 1957. For over 20 years she was a loyal employee at Bolton Hall of UGA. Mattie was a loving mother and grandmother. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren, and spent many hours nurturing their development. On any given day, she could be found cooking and baking pies for her family. Mattie also enjoyed quiet evenings relaxing and chatting on the telephone with her family and friends. Mattie Sue as she was affectionately known as will be truly missed by everyone who knew her.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Bennie Lumpkin and Mrs. Sue Lumpkin; two brothers, Mr. Eddie Cooper, and Mr. Thomas Lumpkin.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory two loving daughters, Lolita Johnson and Lakeisha Lumpkin; four grandchildren, Jarae Arnold, Jessica Arnold, Aramis Johnson, and Arndriaus Lowe; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Johnson and Ms. Althea Lumpkin, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
