Mr. James A. Mathis passed August 14, 2015.Thursday, Celebration of life will be August 20,2015 at 11:00 AM Bethel Free Will Baptist Church Visitation August 19,2015 at the funeral home. Internment will follow Greenwood Cemetery. James Alexander Mathis was the fourth child of five sons born to the union of John H. Sr. and Lue Ethel on January 26, 1964 in Sumter County, Georgia. He graduated from Gordon High School in DeKalb County in 1982. He furthered his education at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton, Georgia on a baseball scholarship.
James was a very caring person and participated in many activities; among his passions were automobile mechanics and telling jokes. He cared for family and friends. He was employed by Lincoln Trucking Company for many years.
He faithfully attended Sunday school at Bethel and was taught the ways of Christ while growing up. He made his transition on Saturday, August 15, 2015 in Rockdale County, Georgia.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: daughter: Jennifer A. Jackson-Way (Shamir), granddaughter: Saniya R. Jackson; Mother and POP: Mr. and Mrs. John L. (Lue Ethel) Hardnett; Father: Mr. and Mrs. John (Mary) Mathis, Sr.; Brothers: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Grimes, Mr. and Mrs. Norman J. Mathis, Mr. Darrel Mathis, and Mr. Lenny Mathis. (Mr. John H. Mathis, Jr. pre-deceased him in death. Sisters: Ms. Dorothy J. Jackson and Ms. Tiffany A. Smith; aunts, uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends
