Gladys Mae Carroll was born January 21, 1936 to George Henry Carroll and Annie Mae Andrews Carroll in Council, NC. Gladys passed peacefully on January 24, 2015 after a brief struggle with Myeloma Cancer. Gladys was the third of five children. She attended and graduated from East Arcadia High School in 1955. After graduating high school Gladys and her cousin moved to New York City. Right away, she landed a great job at Beth Israel hospital where she worked for many years. She would eventually meet the love of her life, Charles L. Burney. They got married in 1963, and went on to have two beautiful children. In 1976 Gladys relocated to Atlanta, GA where she had her second son. She continued working in the healthcare field. Gladys was a kind and gentle spirit. She was always accepting and loved everyone she met. Gladys always made everyone feel comfortable talking to her about anything. Gladys was a very independent woman even right up until her last days. She enjoyed getting out riding public transportation and shopping: that was the New Yorker in her. Gladys was a woman of few words, but had a mighty presence. Her sweet embrace or conversation would leave you longing for the next visit with her. Gladys was a wonderful listener, had a great sense of humor and a humble spirit. Gladys was gorgeous on the outside as well as the inside. She will be missed dearly, but her memory will always be in the hearts of all who loved and knew her. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Henry Carroll and Annie Mae Andrews and her brother Herman Levi Carroll. Gladys was saved and believed strongly in the power of Jesus Christ. Gladys leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Felicia Ann Burney; two sons, Nevins C. (Kwanza) Burney and Trell Burney; one sister, Geneva Carroll Brown; brothers Dossie Carroll and George W. (Eva Mae) Carroll; grandchildren, Chasity, Trinity, Z’Jane, Allen, Charles and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved family and dear friends.

Dear Family, I am very sorry for your loss. However, Almighty God has provided a guarantee of a resurrection to all men by resurrecting Jesus from the dead. (Psalm 83:18; Acts 17:31) We will be able to see our loved ones again on this earth. (Psalm 37:11, 29) May the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God bring you peace and comfort until that time. (Exodus 31:3)
