Gene joined Morning View Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized with some of his brothers and sisters. During his life time, Gene was a member of several churches and served as an Usher when he lived in Virginia Beach. Gene attended school in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1969. Shortly after graduating from high school, Gene joined the United States Army and served two tours. The 1st in Vietnam and the 2nd in Germany.
Gene was married to the late April Biddle in 1972. From this union 2 children were born, Ameer and Danielle. During his tour in Germany, he was joined by his wife and children until he was honorably discharged from the Army. After the Army, Gene and his family moved to Lithonia, Georgia where he worked for the Postal Service as a Carrier. Gene furthered his education at Atlanta Area College where he received a degree in Heating and Air Conditioning.
Later in life, Gene met and married the late Nancy Williams, no children was born from this union.
Gene departed this life on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Atlanta VA Hospital after a brief illness. One son Cameron Eugene Thomas preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory two sons, Ameer (Trevia) Thomas, and Isaiah Thomas; daughter, Danielle (Donald) McCarter; father, Edward Thomas Sr. of Bay City, Michigan; seven sisters, Eva, Evelyn (Sidney), Elnora (James), Sandra (Larry), Debra, Jacqueline (Ronnie), and Tammie; three brothers, Edward Jr., Stephen Jerome, and Christopher Bernard (Natkia); two granddaughters, Tameera and Arie; four grandsons, Marquis, Mylik, Mekhi and Alex. one uncle C.B. Morgan of Locust Grove, Georgia; a fiancée, Shirley Whitehead, mother of Cameron and Isaiah, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
