1SG John Wesley Brown, III was born on February 19, 1943 in Savannah, Georgia to Claude and Madeline Brown-Williams. The family moved to Miami in the late 1950’s. John graduated from Johnson Senior High School and enlisted in the United States Army.

John served in the United States Army from January 1960 until March 1983. He received many medals and awards throughout his Army career. After retirement, He moved to Atlanta, Georgia and actively participated in several military organizations.

John Wesley Brown, III was united in holy matrimony on March 24, 2007 to Carolyn Ragland-Brown who was very dedicated and devoted until his death.

On Sunday, May 16, 2010 God embraced John, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and welcomed him to eternal rest. He departed life at the Atlanta VA Hospital. One daughter, Dina Brown, two brothers, Charles Brown and Charlie Williams, Jr., preceded him in death.

John leaves to cherish his loving memory a devoted wife, Carolyn Ragland-Brown; his four daughters, Chandra Brown of Savannah, GA; Madeline (Kevin) Brown-Williams of Little Rock, AR; Versinia Brown Gooden of Little Rock, AR and Glennetta Brown of Miami, FL; brothers, Bishop Willie (Laura) Butler, James (Andrea) Brown; sisters, Claudia (Leon) Brown Gray, Linder Williams, and Carolette Williams .
