He was the only son and sixth child of seven siblings. He committed to Christ in 1932 at St. Paul C.M.E. Church, in Sparta. He made this promise to his mother on her deathbed.
Leaving Sparta in the late thirties with three dollars in his pocket, Marvin settled in Decatur with his two sisters. He was a truck driver for several truck lines and retired from Johnson Motor Line in the mid-seventies.
He joined Flipper Temple A.M.E. Church where he served faithfully as a Steward and later Steward Emeritus.
He was preceded in death by wives, Annie Mae Clayton, Margaret Davitte Clayton and daughter, Jacqueline Ellison.
He is survived by a devoted daughter, Mollie Ann Grier; grandson, Todd Hillman (Melinda); great granddaughter Tiffany;sister Ocie Baskin, nieces, nephews, cousins; The Flipper Temple A.M.E. Church family and friends.
