Springfield, MA - Ms. Mamie L. Smith, a native of Williston, SC, entered into eternal rest on June 5, 2021. The burial will be conducted on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Young Rosemary Missionary Baptist Church, Williston, SC with Reverend Beverly Ashley officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 10:00 Am - 11:30 AM at Simmons Funeral Home of Williston, Inc. & Cremation Service.

Mamie L. Gaffney Smith was born on June 27, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Leon Gaffney, Sr. and the late Nettie Bell Ashley Gaffney. She moved to Springfield, MA at the age of 19 and lived there until her death.

At an early age Mamie joined the Young Rosemary Missionary Baptist Church, Williston, SC. While living in Springfield, MA, she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church, Holyoke, MA, where she was a faithful member. She attended Kelly Edward High School. She worked many of jobs while living in Springfield, MA. and meeting many friends. She was united in holy wedlock to Willie Smith, who preceded her in death. Three children were born.

Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, Della, Johnny, Stroman, Leon Gaffney and Katie Kennedy, two grandchildren; Dwayne Kelly and Tyshawn Smith.

Mamie leaves to cherish her loving memories, two daughters, Gail Sanders, Kearun Smith, one son, Anthony Smith, three sisters, Blond Simmons, Janice Brown, Barbara (LC) Pryer, three brothers, James (Janie) Gaffney, Simmie (Virginia) Gaffney, Lim Gaffney, eight grandchildren, Larasha Echols, Charles Darby, Daquan Kelly, Shawnece Smith, Anthony Smith, Jr., Jovaughn Smith, Contasha Sanders and Marcus Sanders. 13 great grandchildren, special friends; Robert C. Jackson, Salley Garnett, first cousin Pearline Pegram and host of other relatives and friends.
