Obituary For Ernestine V. Walton

Deacon Ernestine Vivian Walton was peacefully carried home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 29, 2009 in Decatur, GA following a sudden illness. Born October 28, 1928, she was one of four children of the late Joseph and Grace White in Logan, West Virginia.

She was a graduate of the Montgomery County Public School System in Dayton, Ohio.

Deacon Walton met the love of her life, Alfred Paul Walton, Sr. and to this union two children were born, Linda Ogletree (Michael) and A. Paul Walton Jr. (Gwendolyn). She and her family were active in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where they espoused exemplary Christian values and principles. Husband, Alfred, and twins sisters, Pearline and Pauline, preceded her in death

Deacon Walton worked at the McCall Magazine Company, Inc., headquartered in Dayton, OH for 20 years. Then she worked for 10 years in the County Clerk Office Bureau of Marriage Licenses in Ohio. The consummate family woman, she relocated to Atlanta, GA in 1979 to work in a family-owned and operated business, Thom-Davis Construction Co., and to help raise her grandchildren.

She joined her beloved Ebenezer Baptist Church to establish her spiritual roots in the Atlanta area. She served with the Youth Ministry, the October Birthmonth Club, The Grief & Loss Ministry, and the Esther Jean Roberts Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). Her ordination as one the first female Deacons at Ebenezer in 2002 was a highlight in her life. Her devotion to children later defined her role as “Nanny” to dozens of children in households in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Her dedication and concern for the welfare of her darlings was an inspiration. Parents were impressed by the devotion she bestowed upon their children.

Deacon Ernestine Walton was always a gracious lady with a heart that touched family and friends alike. Her strength, tradition and caring shined forth in all every area of her life. These traits were among the greatest gift she has passed along to her children, grandchildren and children in her care. She will live forever in all of them.

She leaves an inexpressible void in the hearts of her family including children, A. Paul Walton, Jr. (Gwendolyn) and Linda Walton Ogletree (Michael); brother, Donald White (Martha); ten grandchildren, Jason Davis (Brandy), Dr. Brandon Davis, Dr. Lesley Davis, Ebony, Paula, Ivory, Dekota, Queen, Diamond and Angel Walton; four great-grandchildren, Jason, Jr.,, Diani, D’Nyla and Mariah and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends.
