Obituary For Mrs. Geraldine Johnson

The life of Geraldine Williams began on February 28, 1938 in New Orleans, Louisiana and departed from this earth on February 11, 2017 in Marietta, GA. She was born at Charity Hospital of New Orleans, the fifth of eight children to Mr. Matthew Williams and Mrs. Ida Jane Bryant of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Geraldine was raised as a child in the French Quarter on St. Ann Street. She attended Joseph A. Craig School and graduated from Joseph S. Clark High School in 1956. She also resided in the Calliope Projects where she met and married Alvin Lloyd Johnson. They were married for 41 years until his passing in June 2003. During their marriage, they were blessed with three daughters: Gerri Lynn, Perri Ann, and Alvina Maria.

By profession, Geraldine was as a Pre-K teacher, serving many children to prepare them for Kindergarten. She worked as a teacher for People’s United Methodist Community Center for 30 years and Union Bethel AME Church for 15 years before relocating to Marietta, Georgia after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Upon settling in Marietta, she dedicated her time and talents to caring for and nurturing her grandchildren.

Geraldine demonstrated a devotion to God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ since a young age. She was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church in New Orleans. She sang in the church choir and served in the office of Financial Secretary for 23 years. She was also the Delegate for the church to the Annual United Methodist Church Conference.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Alvin Lloyd Johnson.

She is survived by her daughters Gerri Lynn (Johnson) Davillier, Perri Johnson and Alvina Johnson Atkinson; son-in-law Michael Atkinson; her sister Ida Jane Williams and brother-in-law Willie Anthony Williams; her brother Willis Joseph Gildersleeve; seven grandchildren (Jared, Kailyn, Kerilyn, Brian, Michal, Matthew, and Andrew); a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and beloved friends.

A Fallen Limb A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. Keep smiling and surly the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease; my soul is at rest. Remerging all, how truly I was blessed continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your lives, don’t worry about falls I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes when we’re together again”. Author Unknown

You have my deepest condolences. May the love of family, friends, and Almighty God comfort you during your time of grief and afterward. (Ps. 83:18; Isa. 41:10) If you seek God, you will find Him because “He is not far off from each one of us”. (Acts 17:27) And take heart! Acts 24:15 says “there is going to be a resurrection”. We have the hope of seeing Geraldine again. I hope this brings you peace.

Friends of God though they may pass away will never be forsaken. Please hear the promises of God at Job 14:13-15, where he says: He will call and the dead will answer. They shall live at his command. With deep sympathy LS
