Obituary For Lula Mae Callaway

Mrs. Lula Mae Callaway was born December 13, 1914 to the late Mr. Edd Lindsey and Mrs. Asie Patterson Lindsey, in Dawson, GA. She was the fifth of twelve children. Nine of her siblings preceded her in death. She received her education at Herring Street Scholl in Decatur, GA and Sylvia Bryant High School in Atlanta, GA.

Mrs. Callaway was a very bright student. She graduated from Poro Beauty Culture. She worked as a beautian until her retirement. She was married to Mr. Frank Callaway for 62 years.

Mrs. Callaway joined Thankful Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. William M. Jackson. She joined the choir at age 13 and has been singing in the choir since 1926. She served her church in many areas: Secretary of the Sunshine Band, Secretary of Sunday School, and Secretary of the Matron Club. She served as the Secretary of Willing Workers, Pastors Aid Club, Senior Choir, and as the Assistant Secretary to the Church and Secretary of (S.A.M.). She also organized the first children's choir of 25 children. She served her church faithfully until her health failed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Mr. Frank Callaway; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys J. Hunt (James), and Ms. Evelyn L. Brown; a devoted niece, Ms. Sandra L. Baker; sister-in-law, Mrs. Rusha Lindsey, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
