MR. EDDIE LEWIS BASKERVILLE, affectionately called “BB,” “Slick,” and “Ed Lewis” departed this life June 19, 2021 at his residence, LaCrosse, VA with his wife by his bedside. He was born August 20, 1943 in Mecklenburg County, VA to the late Maybell Baskerville Rogers.
At an early age he was baptized and joined Free Union RZUA Church. He attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools. Ed Lewis was married to Margaret Evans on November 14, 1964 and to this union two children were born.
During his younger years, Ed Lewis was an avid hunter. He housed plenty of coon dogs in his back yard. He also loved, loved to dance. You would see him sliding across the dance floor and kicking his leg up. He wore shoes that were so shiny and cleaned but one thing for sure he made sure you didn’t step on those shoes either.
Ed Lewis was a former member and lead singer for the Israelites Gospel Singers.
He was a Trustee of Free Union Church and a member of the Senior Choir. He also was a member of the Chancel Choir in which he loved to march down that aisle for church services and for choir anniversaries. He adored leading songs especially his favorite, “Hold On A Little While Longer”.
He was employed by Cleveland Construction Company for many years and later for Clyde Walker Construction Company until his retirement.
Ed Lewis leaves to mourn a devoted and caring wife, Margaret Baskerville of the home; two children- Milton (Lisa) Baskerville of Bronx, NY and Diane (Major) Evans of Covington, GA; five grandchildren- Brandon of Brooklyn, NY; Vanessa of Bronx, NY; Marcus of Covington, GA; Jamelle of Bronx, NY and Marquell of Covington, GA; six great-grandchildren- Angela, Michael, William, Myiah, Malani and Adrian; two step-brothers- Connie Rogers and Rufus (Frances) Rogers all of South Hill, VA, and a host of other relatives, cousins and friends.
