Obituary For Rev. Dr. Mance Cal Jackson, Jr.

The Service of Praise and Thanksgiving for Life Works and Ministry of the Rev. Dr. Mance C. Jackson, Jr., will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at West Mitchell C.M.E. Church, 560 M.L.K.,Jr. Dr., SW. Rev. Fredrick L. Braddock Pastor, Bishop Henry Williamson, officiant, Bishop Lawrence Reddick, III, Eulogist. The body will lie in state two hours before the service. A tireless Professor and C.M.E. Pastor and Presiding Elder, Rev. Dr. Mance Jackson carried the mantel of civil rights leadership in Seattle, WA in the early 60's. After moving to Atlanta in 1963 he earned Graduate Divinity degrees from Interdenominational Theologicial Center, Phillips School of Theology and New York Theological Seminary. Dr. Jackson's rewarding and prolific affiliations with I.T.C. included mumerous faculty and administrative appointmens. His distinguished career also included serveral published works as well as ecumenical duties in Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle East. Those who cherish his memory with profound respect include his devoted wife, Mrs. Joy A. Jackson; loving children, Linda Vitale (John), Diantha Reese, Claudius Jackson, Darlene Atchison, Deborah Stallworth, Doreen Jackson, Myron Jackson and Donna Stewart (Keith); 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; aunt, Mrs. Thelma Summers; rother, Mr. Thomas Jackson (Lavassar); other relatives, friends and numerous theological mentees and colleagues. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be forwarded to the M. C. Jackson Missionary Fund, c/o Mrs. Joy Jackson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8, this evening at Grissom-Eastlake Funeral Home, 227 East Lake Dr. SE, (at Memorial Dr.), 404-373-3191.
