Obituary For Mrs. Veola Dukes Johnson

Sister Veola D. Johnson was born March 1, 1930 to Howard Dukes and Sally Thomas Dukes in Stewart County, Georgia. She was blessed with seven siblings.

On November 4, 1950, Veola Dukes and Rozell Johnson were united in Holy Matrimony. This union produced fifty seven years of wonderful memories.

Veola joined New Salem C.M.E. Church in 1941. She served as a Stewardess, an Usher, Secretary of the Church, Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer. She sang in the Ever Ready Chorus, the Acappella Choir for the Southwest Singing Convention, and the Georgia / Alabama Singing Convention.

Veola was educated in the public schools of Stewart County. She graduated from Albany State College (Albany State University) with a B.S. Degree in Education. During the summer, she furthered her education at Tuskegee University, Georgia Tech, and Valdosta State College (Valdosta State University). She was employed by the Stewart County Board of education for forty years and retired in 1991. Veola was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Many people will cherish the memory of Veola Dukes Johnson. Some who will cherish her memory are: two Sisters, Vester Ree Johnson, Pauline Ward; two Brothers, Lucious (Lillian) Dukes, Johnny B. Daniel; Nieces, Patsy Gordon (Jo Jo), Bernetta Horst, Deborah Tipton (Bryant), Maria Baldwin, Kandice Alexis Daniel, Susan Franklin, Christina Dukes; Nephews, Michael Dukes, Brian Dukes, William Dukes (Barbara), Alarie Baldwin (Bobbie), Dell Baldwin, Darryl Baldwin, John Baldwin, Jr., Andrew Daniel, Edward (Alice) Daniel, Howard Daniel, David (Dana) Felton, Charles Felton, Armond Horst, and Ramone Horst; an adopted daughter, Elva Dean Lawson and her New Salem Church Family, other relatives and friends.
