Obituary For Dr. Narvie Danese Hill Williams Puls

Narvie Danese Hill was the first of 5 children of Henry and Dovie Hill (their son Wilensky died as an infant). Narvie (“Bay” to family and close friends) was educated in the Atlanta Public School System, and from early on took great pride in academic excellance. She entered Spelman College at the age of 16 and earned a Bachelors Degree. Narvie earned her Masters Degree from Atlanta University, a Specialist Degree from University of Georgia, and Ph.D from Georgia State University. Dr. Puls received numerous academic and professional awards throughout her career. She belonged to and helped established many organizations, among them the Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority of which she was a charter member. Narvie married John Arthur Williams, also an educator, and to this union two children were born-Dawn Andrea Williams and Kevin Hill Williams. Narvie and John were later divorced; John died after a short illness in 1983. Narvie married Richard Coyne Puls (Baba Richard Ogigi) Puls, Ed.D in 1987. Narvie’s professional career as an educator encompassed 36 years in the Atlanta Public School system. She taught at Archer, Price, West Fulton and Therrell High Schools. She was Assistant Principal at Price High School then Principal at Crogman, Humphries and Scott Elementary Schools. As a teacher and principal Narvie demanded that her student perform at their highest potential and she followed them each step of the way. In addition to teaching, she held extra-curricular activities such as instruction in square dancing, clogging, poise lessons and African Infusion classes. Narvie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, sewing, making her own clothes, architectural and structural design, and playing bridge. After retiring in 1992, Narvie founded Omenela Griot, An Afrocentric Teaching Museum, a community based enviroment in West End where she taught the true story of African history. As Museum Director Narvie traveled to Ghana, Senegal and the Carribean. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2009 11:00 a.m. at The Shrine of the Black Madonna, 946 Ralph D. Abernathy Blvd, Rev. Ewa Omo Oba, officiating. She leaves to cherish her memory husband Baba Richard Ogigi Puls, Ed.D; daughter Dawn (Irvin Wheeler) Williams Boyd; son Kevin(Wanda Latrell) Hill Williams; sisters, Trophyce Carter, Una (Everett) Smith, Beverly (George) Satterwhite; grandchildren, Dziko Ain (Edward) Rue, Iyabo Kijakazi Boyd, Winston George Saddler, Irvin Dwynell Wheeler, Natwana Breyona Pace; other relatives and friends.
