Obituary For Shawnell Hyson Banks

Shawnell Hyson Banks was born December 2, 1972 in the Bronx, NY to Charles H. Banks, and the late Beverly Banks. He passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at his home in Pittsburgh, PA.

Shawnell was raised in the Garden of Prayer, Church of God in Christ, where he developed many of his musical talents, including bass, guitar, and drums. He was also gifted in music composition, and grew a passion for producing his own music. He started his own band, and worked as a DJ during his free time.

Shawnell was very involved in sports from a young age. He wrestled, and was a dedicated basketball player for the New York Gauchos. Shawnell was also a great cook that enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his favorite recipes that he learned from cooking with his mom.

Shawnell graduated from Adlai E. Stevenson High School in the Bronx, NY. He then went on to take classes in computer science and engineering at Hunter College. Shawnell was a man of many talents. While he lived in the Bronx, he was a team leader for Cablevision, and, when he moved to Pittsburg, PA, he continued to use his technological abilities, and started a computer repair business. He also opened his own thrift store in PA. He later went on to work as a used car referral agent.

Shawnell was preceded in death by his mother Beverly Banks. Shawnell leaves to cherish his memory father Charles H. Banks; stepmother Maritza R. Banks; brother Lamont T. Banks; sister Charlinda A. Banks and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
