Obituary For Carrel D. Mitchell

Mother Carrel Davis Mitchell was born January 10,1920 to the late Frank and Savannah Davis. She grew up in Athens, Georgia where she attended the public schools of Clarke County.

In her early childhood mother Mitchell joined Hill Chapel Baptist Church in Athens, Georgia. After moving to Atlanta, she joined Fairfax Church of God In Christ and later joined Ingram Temple Church of God In Christ, where she served faithfully as a member of the usher board and the hospitality committee.

In 1940, Mother Mitchell was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Inus Mitchell. to this union one daughter Maurice Ann, was born. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell shared a beautiful life together and remained committed to their vows until his death in 1983.

Mother Mitchell had a strong work ethic. She was employed for many years as a care giver and domestic worker. Mother Mitchell was a loyal and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved people but was especially drawn to children. She always reached out to lend a helping hand and to offer encouragement. It seemed her passion was to share the love of Jesus. Whenever you went to her home , you were welcomed with open arms, and a sincere invitation for a return visit.

Mother Mitchell leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving daughter, Mrs. Maurice Ann (Edward) Bowie; a caring granddaughter, Natasha D. Mahoney, a devoted godson Toby McCarter; four sisters, Mamie Colquitt, Jeannie (Charles) Robinson , Virginia Carey, Gloria (Robert) Holmes; a brother James Carey. Other survivors include one sister-in-law, Mrs. Laura Mitchell of Chicago, Illinois; four brothers-in-law, Nathaniel (Serena) Mitchell, Jack (Mildred) Mitchell, Ralph (Cora) Mitchell all of Atlanta, and Tunis Mitchell of Chicago, Illinois, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
