Annie Pauline Higgins, affectionately known as “Momma” or “Big Momma” was born on February 10, 1933, to the late Emma Pine Harris and James Harris. Although her birthplace was Atlanta, GA, Annie also lived in Rutledge and eventually Buckhead, GA became known as home for many years. When the time came, Annie moved to Madison, GA where her legacy continued until God called her home on June 24,2021.

Annie received her education in the public schools of Morgan County. Thereafter, she lived most of her life as a local caregiver. Annie devoted years of her life providing care for the Chamberlains of Madison, GA. Serving others brought Annie great joy. If Annie, had it to give, she would willingly do so to whomever was in need. She also loved to cook, and nothing brought her family a smile like her homemade biscuits. In the same, nothing brought Annie a smile like all of her family being together at her home. At Annie’s house, everyone was welcome. Annie truly believed “love covers a multitude of sin”. She taught her family to forgive and always look after one another.

Annie attended church for many decades in Buckhead. It was not until her later years that she joined the Church of Christ in Athens, GA. While worshiping at Church of Christ Annie gained another family, her church family. In February of 2021, Annie celebrated her 88th birthday. She was surprised by a unique parade and visitation from her church family. Annie’s love for God, her family, and her church family was undeniable. One of her greatest accomplishments was creating a 6-generation family. Annie was able to watch her great-great-great grandchild play in her front yard, a blessing from God.

Annie and the late Otis Calvin Higgins created a beautiful family. Annie leaves to survive and cherish her memories eight children: Mary Burke, Otis (Betty) Higgins, Henry Higgins, Pauline Higgins, Shirley Higgins, Patsy Higgins, Robert J. Higgins, and Ricky Harris; 3 adopted daughters: Shirley Waller, Dora Few, and Patricia Ann Burke; and 4 stepchildren. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and a few great-great-great grandchildren also survives her memories.

She is preceded in death by a special significant other, Roman Brown; one sister, Ruby Mae Burke, and four brothers: James, R.L, Jesse Clyde, and Richard Harris.
