Obituary For Alexander "Sarge" Jones

Celebration of life for Mr. Alexander “Sarge” Jones will be held Friday, September 27, 2013 12:00 NOON at Grissom-Clark Eastlake Chapel. Rev. Lamont Johnson, Shy Temple CME, Officiating. Interment, GA National Cemetery. Family will assemble 11:00a.m. at residence.

Alexander “Whitt” Jones known to most as “SARGE” was born on October 19, 1931 to Mr. Willie Clyde Jones and Mrs. Josie Mae Taylor in La Fayette, Alabama. On September 23, 2013 after a long and prosperous life, Sarge passed away peacefully at DeKalb Medical Hospital in Decatur GA.

Sarge was truly a man of honor and took pride in serving his country for thirty-one years. While enlisted in the United State Army, Sarge served in the following military units 555 “Triple Nickels” Parachute Infantry Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, First Special Forces Group, Third Special Forces Group, Fifth Special Forces Group, 10th Special Forces Group, 173rd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, 507 Engineering Group. Among his many accomplishments, Sarge earned an Associate degree in Automotive Technology and worked as a ROTC Instructor at Morehouse College.

Sarge touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his military bearing all the way to the end. May he rest in eternal peace.

Sarge was preceded in death by his father, Willie Clyde Jones, mother, Josie Mae Taylor, brother, Willie Joe Jones and sister, Corrine Jones.

Sarge leaves to cherish his loving memories his beloved wife Mrs. Johnnie Dailey Jones; daughter, Alexia Louise Jones; son, Roderick Lewis (Joyce) Jones; three grandchildren, Brianna Janae` Jones, Dailey Shasha Jones and Alexander Wilson Jones; sister-in-law, Mrs. Nannie Mae Jones; a special nephew Alexander “Tina” Jones; seven nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends
