Iris Lee Troxler

Mrs. Iris Lee Troxler entered eternal rest on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Beacon Place in Greensboro, NC. She was born on October 24, 1937, in Kinston NC to the late William Edward Williams and Rennie Mae Fordham Slappy.

She graduated from Adkin High School in Kinston and furthered her education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she received a degree in Social Work. She met Thomas E. Troxler, and they were united in holy matrimony for 50 years. To this union, God blessed them with two children, P. Cheria Troxler Singleton (Charles) and Steve Troxler, Sr. (Yvette)., three grandchildren, Steve, Jr, Pamela, and Dai’niah. She is survived by two sisters, Doris Faye Collins, Delores Crews, one sister-in-law Gertrude, one brother, deceased (William, Jr), and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Iris became a much-loved and devoted member of Bethel A.M.E Church in 1975, where she was active until her last days. She was a member of the Nellie T. Herbin Missionary Unit and a Sunday school teacher. She formed the first Food and Clothes closet for families in need, led the First Tutorial Program, started the Youth People’s Department “Storytime Hour”, and wrote and produced many plays such as “The Third Heaven, “The Tale of the Brick”, - A Bethel History and “In an Unknown Tongue We Sing”.

Iris continued to pursue her love of learning by attending Jackson Seminary. She became a Notary Public and a certified substitute teacher. Shortly thereafter, she volunteered for community organizations such as the Black Child Development Institute of Greensboro and the Greensboro Women’s Investment Club. Her many awards include Woman of the Year, Missionary Extraordinary, Magnificent Lay Person of the Year, and the Unsung Hero for the Stewardess Board. Iris loved studying the Bible, reading, golf, writing plays, listening to music, spending time with her family, the beach, and the NC A&T AGGIES.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 4pm-6pm in the Cassie Coote-Brown Memorial Chapel of Perry J. Brown Funeral Home. A service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Bethel AME Church, 200 Regan Street Greensboro, NC 27401 The visitation will begin at 12:30pm and the service will follow at 1:00pm. Burial Lakeview Memorial Park.
