Obituary For George A Sutherland, IV

George Alexandra Sutherland, IV was born May 4, 2004 to Crystal A. Moody and George A. Sutherland, III at Crawford-Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Because of His infectious smile, outpouring of unconditional love and a sense of humor beyond years, George blessed all who met him. He was a living example of the saying “to know him is to love him.” George attended Saint Phillip A.M.E. and Newbirth Missionary Baptist Churches. He was baptized at St. Phillip A.M.E. Church on September 25, 2005. He loved school. Maybe because it gave him so many opportunities to interact with people, everyday of the week. He attended Church Street and Northcutt Elementary Schools in 2009 as part of a morning and afternoon pre-kindergarten program and Martin Luther King Elementary in 2010 and 2011. On July 25, 2011, George was diagnosed with leukemia. He enrolled in the Clayton County Homebound program until he was again well enough to return to MLK. George had a presence that filled any room he entered. In 2006, he was named American Baby Contest Semi-Finalist, Starburst USA 1st Place Winner, New Star Discovery National Magazine Award Winner, and New Star Discovery Most Beautiful Baby Contest Overall Winner. His unshaken courage in his battle against leukemia moved the Drew High School Titans football team to name George their team representative. He was asked to join the team in the locker room before the game and down on the field at half time during their game at the Georgia Dome against Sandy Creek. That was the highlight of his year. George leaves a world of family, friends and loved ones to cherish his memory to include: his mother and best friend, Crystal A. Moody; his father, George A. Sutherland, III; maternal grandparents, Horace W. Moody, Jr. (Poppi) and Rhonda F. Moody (Me’ma); aunt, Helena L. Moody; paternal grandparents, George A. Sutherland, Jr. (Bubba) and Shirley Sutherland (Nana); aunt, Jill Sutherland (T-Jill), great aunts, Gayle Davis, Sarah Moody-Thomas, Carolyn Y. Moody, Esther Moody-Collins, and Michelle Goree; great-uncles, Samuel Davis, Terrence Wilcox, James Moody, Charles Moody and William Moody; a host of cousins; extended family members, aunt, Michelle Arbet and uncles, Darnell Arbet, Peniel Dany and William Lee (Alisha Lee); godparents, Toayia Jones, Terrence Wittington, Natasha Glenn, Huwida Fahima, Stephanie Ball, Christine Carter, Kimberly Hodges, Roxanne Anderson and Dr. Joseph Saba. George’s uncle, William F. Moody, great-grandfathers, Horace W. Moody, Sr. and Carol R. Wilcox, Sr. and great-grandmother, Carolyn H. Moody wait to greet him.

Celebration of Life for Master George A. Sutherland, IV, of Stone Mountain, will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Saint Philip A.M.E. Church. Dear Family, I am very sorry for your loss. I know that this is late, and I didn't know George personally, but I felt drawn to sign his guestbook. May you find comfort in knowing "there is going to be a resurrection". (Acts 24:15) We will be able to see George and our other loved ones again on this earth. (Psalm 37:11, 29) And not only that, Isaiah 25:8 says “God will swallow up death forever”! In Gods new Kingdom, we will never have to mourn the loss of our loved ones again. (Rev. 21:4) I hope this brings you peace.

I really do express my deepest condolences to you as parents. It is not easy to love a child in death. But just knowing that God's cares for you and ask that we come to him in prayer. It will bring you comfort.
