Obituary For Lawrence C. Webb

Mr. Lawrence C. Webb, of Riverdale, GA passed August 9, 2012.

Celebration of life service for Mr. Lawrence C. Webb will be 11am, Tuesday, August 14 at Lindsay Street Baptist Church, 550 Lindsay St., NW, Atlanta, GA 30314. The Rev. Anthony A. W. Motley, Pastor, officiating. Interment West View Cemetery.

Lawrence C. Webb was born on June 6, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was blessed to be a member of a Christian family headed by a no-nonsense father, Rev. Gregland Mills Webb, a loving mother Mrs. Myrtis M. Webb and five closely-knit siblings, Barbara, Gregland, Veronica, Toni and Cavanaugh. As a child, he was always playful, full of laughter and a real jokester! Throughout his life, he loved telling jokes he thought were hilarious; even if nobody else thought they were funny.

Education was his passion and teaching was his calling. As a teacher for over 35 years, he shared his knowledge to enlighten and inspire high school students in Fayette County, DeKalb County, Clayton County and Atlanta Public Schools, thereby enabling generations to achieve higher social, economic and intellectual status. While in the Clayton County Public School System, he was honored as “Teacher of the Year.”

As a tutor and mentor, if he didn’t have academic knowledge to help you, he would go and buy the same textbooks you had and educate himself so that he could help you succeed. Whether you were sitting around watching TV with him or running a 10K road race alongside him, he was “always the teacher,” challenging you to expand your knowledge.

A generous man, he was “always bearing gifts” and serving others as only God could have ordained him do. From giving small surprise to nieces and nephews, to quietly leaving valuable, unexpected gifts in your home, he was filled with a Christmas spirit which he unselfishly shared every day. He was just irreplaceable.

He was preceded in death and holy resurrection by his father, Rev. Greland M. Webb and brother, Rev. Gregland L. Webb. His loving spirit will continue to be a blessing for his mother, Mrs. Myrtis M. Webb; son, Lawrence C. Webb, II; three sisters, Barbara A. Morgan (James), Veronica Webb Stuart (Ricky), and Toni Webb; one brother, Cavanaugh A. Webb; family member, Elizabeth Dixon; four nieces, Shetabia M. Putmon (Terrell), Autumne E. Stuart, Faith M. Williams and Markie K. Harris; three nephews, James C. Morgan, Ricky O. Stuart, II, and Evan Mills Webb-Stuart; a host of aunts, uncles, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.

We thank God for blessing our lives through him.

Grissom-Clark Funeral Home, 227 East Lake Dr., SE, Atlanta, GA 30317, 404-373-3191.
