Obituary For David Earl Cofield, Jr.

David E. Cofield, Jr., 76 peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Monday, June 28, 2021 in the peace of his home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jacqueline H. Wilson Cofield who transitioned on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 and his sister, Doris Smith.

He was born in Newberry, South Carolina to the late David Earl Cofield, Sr. and the late Lucile Scott Cofield and the family relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he received his formal education in the Harrisburg School District and was a graduate of the former John Harris High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team. In 1963, David joined the United States Army and served his country faithfully. He returned to Harrisburg upon his honarable discharge and was united into matrimony to, Jacqueline Wilson and began a career with Norfolk Southern Railway. David received several Perfect Attendance Awards throughout his 38 years of devoted service to the railroad. He retired in 2004 to enjoy his favorite past times.

He had many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing and watching a variety of sports, but ultimately and undenialably, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Astros fan. He loved music, especially Blues and Jazz. David not only had an extensive collection of music that he enjoyed listening to, but he was also a self-taught guitarist! He had a passion for bowling that started during high school while working at the Uptown Bowling Alley as a pin setter. He was a skilled bowler whose achievements are too numerous to mention, however, sharing his love for the sport with his family was his greatest accomplishment.

Family was the most precious gift bestowed to David. This was not limited to the family he was born into or gained through marriage. If you knew David, he was your brother, father, uncle or pop-pop. He was a kind, caring, giving and loving man to all.

He leaves to celebrate his life and to treasure memories of him; his children, Darryl Cofield, Penna’e “Penny” Cofield Akpuru, Demetric Cofield (Alison), Dontez Reid (Devita) and Tamaura Woodson; his 19 grandchildren; his four great grandchildren; his brothers, Donald Lee Cofield, Sr. (Sharon), John Daniel Cofield (Teresa), Jerry Joseph Cofield and Lawrence Thomas Cofield (Judith); his sister, Eola “Candy” Douchand (Roger) and a host of other family members and friends.

David will forever be cherished and remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend.
