Obituary For Mrs. Patricia Baker

Mrs. Patricia Baker of Atlanta Ga passed Celebration of life service will be held Monday, July 6,2015 at 11:00 A.M. Saint Paul A.M.E Church. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 10, 1943 as the second daughter to Cortez and Beatryce Perrin who have both preceded her in death. Patricia matriculated through Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, PA. While at Peabody, Patricia became the first African-American majorette in the school’s history. Patricia earned her nursing degrees at Montefiore Hospital School of Nursing (Registered Nurse, RN) and Hampton Institute – now known as Hampton University (Bachelors of Science in Nursing, BSN). She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Patricia and her daughter Stefani relocated from Pittsburgh, PA to the Atlanta area in 1976. After her relocation, she found immediate employment with Southwest Community Hospital where she was on staff for several years. The majority of her career in Atlanta was spent doing private duty nursing where she loved her patients and they loved her. Patricia’s excellent nursing skills became on demand across the Metro Atlanta area. Prior to retiring, she left patient care to experience a career change as a Medical Review Specialist for a major insurance company. She enjoyed and excelled in her new career, receiving many accolades from the company. In addition to her professional nursing, she acted as our family nurse. Very frequently, she successfully and accurately helped us through medical problems and we affectionately began to call her “Dr. Baker”. Often times, the family would call on “Dr. Baker” for advice prior to going to a doctor appointment and to confirm that she agreed with the doctor’s approach. Her main interests were cooking, basketball and gardening, while her biggest hobby was fishing. She could fish every day of the week if time allowed. She was always up for finding a new fishing-hole. Fishing relaxed her and helped to ease her pain. Patricia also found joy in gardening. She was a lifetime indoor gardener. Her homes were always filled with plants, but when she moved to Atlanta’s Pittsburgh community she began a vegetable garden. With her friend Mr. Jimmy, Patricia maintained a bountiful vegetable garden in the Pittsburgh community garden. She enjoyed watching her harvest go from seed to plate. Patricia received the Shining Star award from the Pittsburgh Community Improvement Association (PCIA) for her work in the community garden. Patricia also had shopping down to a science. She was a professional at finding the best bargains in ANY town. She enjoyed doing show-n-tell with us to display her bargains when she got home. Patricia was affectionately called “Ant” by her nieces and nephews and all of their friends. Having to deal with many chronic illnesses, Ant used her good days wisely. Ant used her good days to be a lot of fun with the young people and make them laugh. She also used her good days to mentor a group of male teens/young adults known as the “716 Crew”. Because of Ant’s guidance the “716 Crew” are now productive young men, making good contributions to society. They appreciate how she mentored them by shooting straight from the hip to get them to do what is right and prepare for their lives ahead. She taught them that “if you don’t do what’s right, you will suffer the consequences from the world, as well as, from ME”! The “716 Crew” will never forget Ant. Patricia/Dr. Baker/Ant was a kind person who ensured that everyone around her was safe, well, and had the right information to make decisions. At times she opened her home as a safe haven for those in need. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Patricia Perrin Baker passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015. Those who cherish the memory of Patricia Perrin Baker include: her beloved daughter, Stefani Perrin-Baker Moore; sisters, Albertine Goeins Perrin and Toni Perrin Jordan (Christopher, Sr.); nieces and nephews, Technical Staff Sergeant Torrey B. Kilpatrick (Natisha), Tia S. Kilpatrick, Christopher D. Jordan, Jr., Crystal D. Jordan; special nieces and nephews: Tori Carrington, Sonya Weaver, Brandon Weaver, Jaye Weaver; and, a host of cousins from the Perrin, Goeins, and Hughey families. Stephani and family, I'm at a loss for words at this moment. I thank God we reconnected 10 months ago after 20 years. I didn't get to have lunch with my friend on Wednesday but I know she is at rest and free of pain God's ultimate healing. Dorothy Mae
