Obituary For Fannie Sheridan

The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Fannie T. Sheridan of Decatur will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012 at St. Philip A.M.E. Church, 240 Candler Rd., S.E. The Rev. Dr. William D. Watley, pastor; the Rev. Larry D. Jones, eulogist. The body will lie in-state one hour before the service. Interment Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Fannie Sheridan departed this life on July 7, 2012 while visiting her daughter for the summer in Idlewild, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Douglas Sheridan.

Fannie was born October 12, 1925 in Eufula, Alabama to Lottie and Maceo Tennelle. At an early age she moved to Chicago, Illinois and attended McCosh Elementary School, Englewood High School and Wilson Junior College. As a child she was a member of Woodlawn African Methodist Episcopal Church. After she was married she joined St. Stephens AME Church.

She worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service in Chicago and retired as a librarian with the Gary, Indiana Public School System. She was a member of First AME Church in Gary. Durining her summer stays in Idlewild she attended Tabernacle AME.

After retiring in 1984, she and her husband moved to Atlanta to be close to her daughter and son-in-law, the late Lou Walker. They joined Saint Philip AME Church, where she became a member of many organizations; Saint Philip Lay Organization, the Golden Girls, the “Queen of Hearts” Red Hat Society and the SPC Seniors/Retirees.

Fannie is survived by her daughters Theresa Walker of Decatur, GA and Doris Aniece Whorton (Patrick) of Idlewild, MI; grandchildren Reginald Tucker (Brigette), Patrice Cox (Theo), Patrick Whorton (Sara), Anthony Whorton (Jocelyn), Oranz Walker, Louis Walker, Jr., (Cynthia) and Angelique Wood; 17 great-grandchildren; sister in Law, Leona Duncan (Austin); brother-in-law, Freddie Sheridan and a host of other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip A.M.E. Church Seniors and Retirees Ministry or to Tabernacle A.M.E. Church, Idlewild, Michigan.
