Obituary For Ms. Chantisa Marisha Jordan

Chantisa Marisha Jordan was born in Atlanta, GA on April 23, 1970 to Marcia Walker and Wilburn Jordan. Chantisa, affectionately known as Tisa, was the stepdaughter of Malcolm Walker and the granddaughter of Edna Clack and the late James Clack, Augustus Jordan and the late Rossie Jordan, and Angress Walker Sr. and the late Grace L. Walker. Tisa trasitioned into the next life on September 6, 2009 in Dublin, Ireland while on family vacation.

Tisa received her early education in the Atlanta Public School System, and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1989. Following high school, she attended Tuskegee University then obtained her degree in Practical Nursing from Flint River Technical Institute.

Diagonosed with sickle cell anemia at 5 months of age, Tisa was a strong advocate for raising awareness of sickle cell disease in the community and educating sickle cell patients. She began to devote much of her time volunteering with Grady Sickle Cell Support Group and the Sickle Cell Foudation of Georgia as early as 12 years of age. Early volunteer activities with the Grady sickle cell support group included Annual Sickle Cell Walk-A-Thon, various fundraisers, special events, and participation in a documentary film highlighting the life of sickle cell patients. Tisa became involved with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia (SCFGA) when she first attended summer camp for sickle cell patients. From there her role with the foundation grew. For the last 12 years, she served as Secretary for the SCFGA Support Group. In 2003, Tisa was appointed to the Board of Directors of the SCFGA and remained a Board Member until her untimely death. In addition to these positions, she took on other responsibilities including acting as a Sickle Cell Camp Counselor, being part of the medical staff for the annual road race and sickle cell camp, speaking at national sickle cell conventions, volunteering at special seasonal events, and mentoring other patients and families of patients.

In spite of her illness, Tisa was always determined to be independent and had a successfull career. Her giving nature, gentle spirit, generosity and devotion to helping others made her an excellent nurse. Tisa worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in a private practice, Atlanta Allergies, and at Kaiser Permanente. She eas then promoted to Site Support Specialist for Kaiser Permanente because of her patience and willingness to learn and teach others. Prior to her death, Tisa was working to become a registered nurse and taking courses to complete her Epic Amulatory Certification to advance her career even further.

When Tisa was not working or volunteering, she loved to travel. During her lifetime, she visited numerous U.S. cities over 12 different countries. After meeting the special man in her life, Edward Hill, she became an active member of the Georgia Easy Riders RV club, and served as Secretary for the club in 2007-2008. Tisa's annual family vacations allowed her to visit many famous landmarks worldwide including the Eiffel tower, The Great Wall of China, The Roman Coliseum, The Vatican, The Acropolic in Greece, and The Cape of Good Hope in South Africa amongst many others.

With all of her accompishments and volunteer activities, the thing she held dearest to her heart was her family. Tisa was a loving and supportive sister, family nurse, confidant, counselor, and advisor. She leaves to cherish her memory: parents, Malcolm and Marcia Walker; father, Wilburn Jordan; grandmother, Edna Clack; grandfathers, Angress Walker, Sr. and Augustus Jordan, Sr.; 2 sisters, Dr. Aisha Walker and Kellie Jordan; godmothers, Jean Allen, Lillie Drayton and Catherine Luallen; great uncles and aunts, Joseph S.
