Obituary For Mr. Dewey Miller

Celebration of life for Mr. Dewey Miller, age 91, of Gadsden, Al. will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 1p.m. at St. John C.M.E. Church with Pastor Jerrell Hicks, officiating. Interment will follow in Lincoln Hill Cemetery.

Dewey Miller was born the 14th child of Steph and Lonie Brock on June 2, 1926. At a young age he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and savior. At the tender age of seventeen, Dewey was drafted into the United States Navy forced to leave pursuing his education to serve his country during WWII. Upon returning home to Sulligent, AL. he reunited with family members who where planning a trip to Gadsden, AL. Once in Gadsden, Dewey met Hazel Cooks and on December 18, 1952 they were joined in Holy Matrimony and to this union three son’s; Gregory, Kenneth and Anthony were born.

In 1957, after working on and off at the local steel plant, Dewey decided that he was tired of the inconsistency of his employer and with a family at home to provide for, he sought employment at Sear and Roebuck where he would work for the next thirty-five years.

Dewey loved family, Gardening and serving in several capacities at his church St. John C.M.E Methodist. He served as a deacon, church custodian and even as the church grounds keeper, he could be found serving in whatever capacity the church needs were.

One of his favorite things to do was hunting, he spent many day’s in the wood’s with his step-son Rickey, whom he loved as if he was his own.

Dewey was preceded in death by both of his parent’s, siblings, son Rickey Cooks and his wife of 60 year’s Hazel Miller. His precious memories will be cherished by his son’s, Gregory(Robbie) Miller, Kenneth ( Christine) Miller and Anthony ( Sherry) Miller; Grandchildren, Gregory D. ( Kierstern) Miller, Kristy L. Miller, Quintina( Briant) Williams, Bryant( Mandy) Miller; Great Grandchildren, DeUntate’ Miller, Jaleigh Miller, Zachary N. Alvarez. D’mon Jalen Miller, Breyonia Williams, Brittnee Williams, Briant Williams Jr., Seanterious Miller, Jatavious Miller and Malayia Avery; Niece’s, Monnie Mae Tymuel and Annie Ruth Watts; A very special friend Mrs. Thelma Turner. He leaves a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
