On March 10, 1948, in the Howell Cove community of Talladega, one of eight blooms was added to the flower planted and sown by Tommie L. Tuck and Vivian R. L. Wilson Tuck. This beautiful flower was named Julia D. Tuck Baker.
Mrs. Baker dedicated her life to God at an early age and united with Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. During her lifetime, she served as choir director, youth director and secretary. Julia was a graduate of Talladega County Training School and continued her education in Chicago earning an associate degree. Julia enjoyed a rewarding career with Talladega College dedicating many years of service. Around 1969, Julia and Wesley A. Baker, Jr. were united in holy matrimony and to this union two children were born. Mrs. Baker was shown to have a “green thumb” and found delight in gardening and flowers.
On the morning of Friday, July 9, 2021, the Lord looked around his garden and whispered to Julia to come and he would give her rest. She was preceded in sweet rest by her husband, Wesley A. Baker, Jr.; son, Wesley A. Baker, III; parents, Tommie L. Tuck and Vivian R. L. Wilson Tuck; a granddaughter, Julia J. Baker; a great grandson, Mihki; and a brother, Tommie L. Tuck, Jr.
Precious memories will forever be in the heart of her daughter, Vivian D. (Raven) Baker of Fletcher, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Kaci Baker of Huntsville, Alabama and Wesley Baker IV (Jordan Raines) of Ashville, North Carolina; four great grandchildren, James Anthony, MaCari, Branson and Kash; four sisters, Brenda T. (Gary) Rhoden and Earnestine Tuck of Munford, Alabama, Cynthia R. (Brandon) Armour of Sylacauga, Alabama and Tonya T. (Scott) Yarbrough of Marietta, Georgia; two brothers, Michael L.
