Dear Willie, Adia, and Tarik, You have our deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear husband and father. May you find peace and strength of your faith, closeness of friends and in the love of family. Memories grow even more precious when we see that those we've loved live on within our hearts. My home and the area around the Green Mill Development would not be the great neighborhood that it is if Freeman did not have the foresight, talent, knowledge and skills to make it happen. We will be forever grateful for his vision and fortitude. His memories will continue to live on in our hearts. Love- Deloris Harris & Family

Many years ago, out of The School of the Arts and Saint Augustines College, seeking out Brother Yusef, I walked into a jam session on 9th St. Little did I know I would be blessed with two mentors that night. From there I had the joy of working with Freeman as a singer, and learning from his professionalism in music and beyond for many many years to come. May God Bless and comfort each of the family. He will give strength during this difficult time. Yolanda Hall

Our sincere sympathy to the Ledbetter family. Freeman's father was principal at Harnett High School when we attended during the 50s and 60s and his mother was the math teacher. Freeman was in our classes and was a"pest." RIP Freeman! Say hello to all the HHS alumni who beat you there! Eloise Freeman Edwards

The Grady McNeill family extends our deepest condolences to the Ledbetter family. As we grew up across the street from one another in Dunn, NC, you might as well say we're related. Even though our blood lines may not be the same, Freeman's passing is painful and has taken a little part of our hearts with him. Please know that God has requested Freeman take up residence in Heaven now, and even though we already miss him, rest assured that he is now in a better place and totally healed. The McNeill Family

I first met Freeman in the '60s when he played in a band that performed monthly in my college dorm. Another surprise, but wonderful, encounter was when he was one of my biochemistry teachers in my first year of medical school. Many memorable occasions followed involving family and music. His warm, heartful approach to many things was noteworthy, especially when my in-laws kitchen roof was removed by a tornado. Not only did he install a "modern" roof, but beautified the house by adding a master bedroom (also adjoining bathroom with whirlpool tub). My prayers and condolences to the family. He will be missed immensely. Jim Dorsey

Willie, Adia, and Tarik, There are no words to express how you feel today. There is a hole today but you will gradually begin to heal and feel better. Just remember that you have many years of fabulous memories with Freeman, the husband, the dad, the granddad, the friend, the musician, the genius. We have known each other for a long time and shared great, good and sad times together. You have our support no matter what. We are here for all of you and will keep you lifted up in prayer. Mother and l just learned of Freeman's passing. He was always so good to Mother. What a hole his absence will make in the fabric of Durham. What a treasure he was. My attempt to keep Mother safe during the pandemic made our world infinitesimal. Our prayers surround you now, that we know of your loss. Mrs. Archie H. Jones and Vita
