Obituary For Martha D. Franklin

Martha D. Franklin “Cookie” was born December 21, 1943 in Augusta, Georgia and departed her earthly home on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Diggs and Jessie Smalley Diggs.

Martha was educated at Immaculate Conception School and Lucy C. Laney High School. She worked in hospitality/catering at the Hilton, the Civic Center and displayed her beautiful smile as a host at various establishments. Martha accepted Christ and became a member of Family in Heaven Holiness Church under Bishop J. L. Robinson. She started attending First New Canaan Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Reather Kennedy.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: sisters, Maggie Louise Patterson, Jamaica, New York, Rosella (Bruce) Carter, Dora (Stanley, Sr.) Hawes; nieces, Felicia Newton, Jamaica, New York, Nikisha (Billy) Terry, Jessica (Javier) Lopez; nephews, Stanley Hawes, Jr. and Britt A. Carter of Augusta, Georgia; a host of great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends.

Martha was introduced to gospel singing at an early age with Novellow Smith and the Gospel Echo Soul Stirrers (where she stood on a chair to sing with the group).

We will forever miss her sweet spirit, kind heart, her loyalty and love for others. We will miss you from putting some miles on your shoes because of your love for walking. WE LOVE YOU SISTER, WE LOVE YOU AUNTIE, WE LOVE YOU COOKIE!

Viewing will be Friday, July 23, 2021 from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m at Walker Memorial Park, 611 Laney Walker Boulevard, Ext., Augusta, Georgia with Reverend Reather Kennedy, eulogist.
