Geraldine Haynes was born on July 24, 1944 to the late Eddie C. and Lizzie Mae Williams.
She transitioned from this life on July 17, 2021. One brother, Eddie C. Williams Jr. and one grandson, Herbert Gross III preceded her in death.
Mrs. Haynes was educated in the Jefferson County Florida School system. And in her later years, she received her GED from Valdosta Tech. For many years, she worked as a supervisor at Quitman Manufacturing Company until her retirement. She later worked as a substitute teacher in the Brooks County School system.
Mrs. Haynes worked and served faithfully as a member of First Elizabeth MB Church and in the community. She was member of the Eastern Star Lodge #92.
Mrs. Haynes was married to the late Charles Gross Sr. and to this union four children were born. Mother Haynes later married the late Deacon Eddie James Haynes.
She leaves to cherish many memories to her children, Herbert Gross Jr., Laverne Bryant (Nathaniel), Shadrach Gross, and Sonya Gross; Fourteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren; Three sisters, Ethel Williams, Quitman, GA, Marry C. Williams, Immokalee, FL and Julia Manning (Albert),Quitman, GA; One brother Minister Frank Williams (Mary),Lehigh, FL; Six sisters-in-law Margie Turner (Wallace),Quitman, GA, Allie Neloms (Ottis), Quitman, GA, Mamie Warren, Atlanta, GA, Alga Rosa Jones, Quitman, GA, Marie Gross, St. Pete, FL and Jewel Gross, Delray, FL; Two brothers-in-law Sheppard Gross and Benjamin Gross, both of Quitman, GA; Six aunts Missy Parker (Edmond), Valdosta, GA, EleaseMaxwell and Pearline Lasley, both of Immokalee, FL, Helen Brinson, Miami, FL and Bessie Gloster, Fort Meyers, FL; One uncle Simon Peter Brinson (Marie), Springhill, FL. She also leaves a very dear friend, Mrs. Mary Lee Goss and a host of sorrowing nieces, nephews and friends to remember her loving ways.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 1PM at First Elizabeth MB Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 4PM-7PM. Visit this website or our Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home Facebook page to view a livestream of the celebration on Saturday.
