Obituary For Sophia "Peggy" Jackson Cook

A graveside service for Sophia “Peggy” Jackson Cook, 80, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2021, at Pine Hill Memorial Park. Pastor Jerry Jones will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will be Sunday, August 1, 2021, from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home. We request that all guest please wear a mask to protect yourself and others.

On March 25, 1941, George Dewey Jackson and his bride, Iva Barclay Jackson, welcomed a daughter to their growing family.in Talladega, Alabama. She was given the name Sophia; however, she became known as Peggy by family and friends.

Mrs. Cook dedicated her life to the Lord at a young age and became a member of Mt. Cleveland Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, she found her church home away from home at Evergreen Baptist Church in Birmingham. She attended Talladega County Training School. Afterwards, Peggy spent a majority of her life caring for her growing family. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting and cooking.

Sophia found love at an early age and on July 7, 1958, she and Maynard V. Cook were united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with two children. She remained a loving and dedicated wife until his passing.

The Lord called Mrs. Cook home to rest on July 27, 2021. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Maynard V. Cook; her parents, George and Iva Jackson; and nine siblings, George “Duke” Jackson, Jr., Charles Jackson, Quince Jackson, Jimmie Jackson, Renna Jackson, Albert Jackson, Joseph Jackson, Raymond Jackson and Sarah Jackson.

Sophia leaves to celebrate her love and life: two sons, Van Buren Cook of Birmingham, Alabama and Anthony B. (Eva) Cook of Slidell, Louisiana; three grandsons; a host of great grandchildren; two sisters, Willie Mae Watters of Birmingham, Alabama and Thelma Dundy of Talladega, Alabama; three brothers, Harvey “Bud” Jackson and Earnest “Skeet” Jackson of Detroit, Michigan and Rollen (Helen) Jackson of Talladega, Alabama; a devoted caregiver, Eunice Zimmerman of Birmingham, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
