Lillian Ragin Richburg, daughter of the late Jim Ragin and Ella James Ragin, was born July 6, 1931 in the St. Paul section of Clarendon County.
She received her formal education at St. Paul School (then a high school) where she graduated in 1949. She was a star point guard on the women’s basketball team and led the team to two State Championships.
Lillian grew up a member of Historic Liberty Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. After marriage, she joined Spring Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church and served loyally on the Usher Board, Choir and Kitchen Committee.
She spent over twenty years in the Food Service Industry serving as a Shift Supervisor. After leaving this position, she took on the full time role of grandmother, raising her two grandsons.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Alphaeus “Shorty” Richburg.
On Monday, August 2, 2021, Lillian Ragin Richburg answered her call to be with the Lord at Lexington Medical Center, Lexington, South Carolina.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory a loving and devoted husband, Alphaeus T. “Shorty” Richburg, Summerton, SC; one son, Aphaeus L. (Ebony) Richburg, Jacksonville, FL; one dauther, Udella Richburg, Hope Mill, NC two grandsons, Datanyen (Shonda) Richburg, Atlanta, GA, Ishmael (Jessica) Richburg. Savannah, GA; two granddaughters, Anastazia Richburg, St. Louis, MO, Victoria Richburg, Jacksonville, FL; four great grandchildren, Ava Noel Richburg and Andrew Richburg both of Atlanta, GA, Jacob Richburg and Daniel Richburg both of Savannah, GA; a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing was be held from 4:00pm til 6:00PM Friday, August 6, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, SC.
Funeral services for Mrs. Richburg were held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St. Manning, SC. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill AME Church Cemetery, Summerton, SC.
