Mrs. Jeanette Carter and Family: We would like to extend heartfelt condolences for the passing of your husband James, our former neighbor and friend. The depth and breadth of James Carter's legacy is immeasurable. The length of your union as husband and wife, and the beautiful "home" you established in Maryland, both the result of love, dedication and hard work. The impact he had on the lives of students, parents and colleagues during his tenure in the District of Columbia Public Schools is infinite. His active participation as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. afforded him the opportunity to give back to the broader community. As our neighbor of well over 20 years, we came to know James to be a man of great pride, responsibility and wisdom. The many conversations neighbors have while taking a break from cutting grass, or shoveling snow allow you to know the heart of a person; he was forthright with a good heart.
