Charles Steven Crawford, Jr., 69, of Wilson, NC died at the Durham VA Medical Center on August 2, 2021.

Crawford was living in Wilmington, North Carolina with his parents, brothers, and sisters when he met and married Janeen H. Wehinger and they shared a life together for 48 years.

He honorably served in the US Navy for over 20 years and retired as an E-9 Master Chief. He then continued his life of service and started his second career and retired as an Officer from Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk, Virginia.

Crawford enjoyed sports and volunteered to coach many of the sports his children played. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and collecting antiques with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Janeen; their oldest daughter and son in law, Tisha C. Miller and Matthew Miller of Wake Forest, NC; their son, Charles Steven Crawford, of Wilson, NC; youngest daughter, Christine Crawford of Suffolk, Virginia and five grandchildren, C. Blake Bunch, Andrew Smith, Charleigh Crawford, Trey Smith and Grayson Miller. He is also survived by several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alan Crawford.

No services will be held. Crawford chose to be cremated and have his remains divided. Part given to his wife because with her is where he always wanted to be and part of the cremains prepared for a burial at sea so he would be returned to the ocean where he proudly served his country.
