Mr. Alvie Lee Rorie

Sergeant First Class Alvie Lee Rorie, 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Palm Coast, FL, on Thursday, August 5, 2021. He was born on December 6, 1958 in High Point, NC, a son of the late Leroy Rorie, Sr. and Bernice Melton Rorie. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Jackson.

Affectionately known as “Alvin” or Alvie Lee, he attended the public schools of Guilford County and was a graduate of High Point Central High School, Class of 1976. Alvie took on the challenge of being a Soldier in the United States Army. In 1977, he attended boot camp at Basic Combat Training Center in Fort Sill, OK. Alvie retired from the Army in July 1999 after 22 years of service. Once retired, he and his family relocated back to High Point, NC, where he began his second career with Thomas Built Buses. He later retired from Thomas Built Buses and relocated to Palm Coast, FL. The beautiful memories of his life will be forever cherished by his devoted wife of over 30 years, Violet Rorie; his children, Donald Scurlock of Jacksonville, FL, Cheri Rorie of Charlotte, NC, Dominique Scurlock of Jamestown, NC. He also leaves behind his siblings, Levertis R. Trapp, Leroy Rorie Jr., Johnny Rorie (Hazel) all of High Point, NC, Julia Jackson of Winston-Salem, NC, Naomi Donnell (Walter) of Greensboro, NC; his granddaughters, Victoria Scurlock, Alanna Scurlock, Cayden Ricks and Isabella Ricks; his great-granddaughter, Gabriella Santos; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will continue to honor him and carry on his legacy.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church, 5583 Rockford Drive, Trinity, NC.
