Funeral service will be 11:00 EST Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Charlie L. Sanders, Jr., officiating. Interment to follow in Concord Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, August 20, 2021 from 2-5 p.m. EST.
Phillip E. Nelams was born September 22, 1938 to the late Flossie Snipes Nelams and the late Tommy Nelams. Phillip joined Concord Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and served as a Deacon. He attended Public Schools in Phenix City, Al. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Bobbie Broadnax Nelams, they had 3 beautiful daughters.
Phillip worked at the Coke Cola Plant for 40 years, Muscogee County School District as a Custodian for 10 years at Key Elementary School; he was also a painter and did landscaping. He loved music, dancing, and working with his flowers and plants.
Phillip departed his life on August 12, 2021, at Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife Carrie Nelams; his brothers, Otis Nelams, Forrest Nelams, Jolly Phelps and Tommy Nelams; and sisters, Jill D’Vore and Mattie Jo Jackson.
He is survived by his beautiful daughters, Janice (Clifford) Alston of Smiths Station, AL, Phyllis (Daniel) Ezekiel of Tampa, FL and Cecelia (Leo) Jones of Phenix City, AL; one brother, David Nelams of Phenix City, AL; five sisters, Virginia Ward of Brooklyn, NY, Claudia Lewis of Phenix City, AL, Rosemary Nelams, Annie Whittelsey and Debra Nelams all of Columbus, GA; two sisters in-law, Vennie Mae Nelams, Eva Nelams both of Detroit, MI; five grandchildren, Robert (Cynethia) Alston of Alabaster, AL, Lance (Lorena) Alston, Paradise, TX, Leo Jones, Huntsville, AL, Darion Ezekiel, Orlando, FL, and Jamia Jones, Troy, AL; five great-grandchildren, Ameer, Jaydyn, Tyler, Kynzie, and Carter James; children that he raised as his own, Raymond Phillips and Veronica (Willie) Haynes and a devoted neighbor, Gloria Brooks all of Columbus, GA; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
