Clement Jerome Cathcart

Mr. Clement Jerome Cathcart, 75, died peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, New York. In 2012, he received a liver transplant at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina and by the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ and his donor, he survived nine years. Although faced with many challenges over the years, Clement always trusted in God's plan for him. Clement was born on February 13, 1946 in Gastonia, North Carolina, son of the late Ella Louise Glenn Cathcart and the late Willie Lee Cathcart. He attended Highland High School and Lincoln High School. In 1969, he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he has lived for the last 52 years. He was employed by Hearst Publications, working over two decades for Good Housekeeping magazine where he assisted in the testing of consumer products. Though he made New York his permanent home, Clement returned to Gastonia every year to visit his parents, daughter, siblings and friends. He always made a point to attend Sunday services at his family's church, Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church in Gastonia, North Carolina during his yearly visits. Along with his parents, the late Willie Lee Cathcart and Ella Cathcart, Clement was preceded in death by his sister, Sirritta Elizabeth Cathcart Nash and nephew, Daryl ("Bogey") Reid. Left to cherish memories of Clement are his loving wife of 50 years, Nancy Costa of Brooklyn, New York, three beloved children including two daughters, Tonya Cathcart-Lawrence (Elder Curtis) of Gastonia, North Carolina, Jessica Cathcart of Allentown, Pennsylvania and son, Eric Cathcart of Atlanta, Georgia; three granddaughters, Lamasia Moss of Brooklyn, New York, Curtonia Lawrence of Gastonia, North Carolina and Shareena Henderson of Allentown, Pennsylvania, two grandsons, John Bonaparte and Jaquan Bonaparte of Allentown, Pennsylvania and one great grandson, Ja'kyias Bonaparte of Allentown, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Steven Cathcart (Robin) of Shelby, North Carolina and Phillip Cathcart of Brooklyn, New York; four sisters, Celeste Cathcart, Joan Reid (David). Jane Porter (Kelvin), Vanessa Friday, (Rev. Jerry), one brother-in-law, Rodney Nash all of Gastonia, North Carolina, one uncle, J. W. Cathcart and one aunt, Magdelene Fox both from Salisbury, North Carolina, special cousins, Elouise, Burtina, Lag, all of Gastonia, North Carolina , Gene Glenn of Louisville, Kentucky and Willie Glenn of Bronx, New York and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends

Public viewings will be at the funeral home Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and Sunday at the church from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M.
