Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Edward Lewis Jacobs, of Decatur will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, 11:00 AM at The Donald Trimble Mortuary Chapel. Interment, Union Church Cemetery, 23717 Martha Berry Hwy., Bluffton, GA. The family will receive friends, Friday, August 20, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, at the mortuary. Edward L. Jacobs was born on August 11, 1950 in Early County, Georgia. At an early age he joined and was baptized at Union A.M.E. Church in Bluffton Georgia. He attended and graduated from Washington High School in Early County with the class of 1971. Afterwards he attended Monroe Tech now Albany Tech Albany, GA, where he took up Welding. Edward lived and worked in New York and California before returning to Georgia where he worked for Holt Auto Parts for over 25 years. He began his own business after leaving Holt (Jacobs Auto Parts, The Partnership of Four Brothers). He also started his singing career as a lead singer for the Soulful Atlantic’s in the early 70’s. Their first recording was “Unite the World” in 1974 by CHUNK “O” GOLD Record Co., produced by Taurus Lamont & Keith Winslow and Arr by Johnny Jacobs. They performed with such artists as Kool and the Gang, The Isley Brothers, Mandrill, Earth Wind and Fire, The Bar Kays and then along with his brother and cousins as lead singer for the Jacobs Gospel Singers until his death. Preceding him in death was his parents, Tommy and Mattie C. Jackson Jacobs; siblings, Catherine Jacobs, Tommy Jacobs, Jr., Billy R. Jacobs, and LaSonya Banks. He is survived by two sons, Rojia Dorsey and Montegus Mapp; one daughter, Shantel Upshaw; two grandsons, Montavious and Montez Mapp; one granddaughter, Wendy Dorsey-Pinsett; his siblings, Mildred (Alex) Williams, Johnny (Gladys) Jacobs, Joyce McBurrows, Leroy Jacobs, Jerry (Brenda) Jacobs, Rev. Larry (Carolyn) Jacobs, Herman Jacobs, Kenneth (Nyla) Jacobs; sisters-in-law, Joyce Jacobs, Janet Jacobs, Pricilla Jacobs, Tracy Jacobs, Evelyn Jacobs; one uncle, John C. (Christine) Jacobs; aunts, Johnnie M. Tyson and Juanita Jacobs; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the mortuary at 10:30 AM.
