Obituary For James Edward Hodge, Sr.

James Edward Hodge, Sr., 78, of Oakwood Dr., Danville, VA, departed this life on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Virginia on April 3, 1943, the son of the late Elder Rash Hodge and the late Essie Eggleston Hodge.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mae Leftwich Hodge; three sisters, Mildred, Gladys, and Sallie Ruth; four brothers, Clyde, Curtis, Rash, Jr., and Robert.

James leaves to cherish his memory four sons, James Hodge, Jr, Anthony Hodge, Jerry Hodge, and Eric Hodge all of Danville, VA; one daughter, Sandra Smith of Martinsville, VA; two brothers, Joe Hodge of Martinsville, VA and Melvin Hodge of Houston, TX; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 12 noon at the Evening Light Cathedral, 130 Bradley Rd., Danville, VA, with Bishop Fred Kidd, Eulogist. Burial will follow at the Rash Hodge Family Cemetery, Price Hairston Lane, Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering and social distancing is required.
