Obituary For Lucy Pearl Jones

Psalms 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

Lucy Pearl Jones of Greensboro, North Carolina, went to her eternal rest on Monday, August 23, 2021 at the age of 78 years old.

Lucy Pearl Jones was born September 28, 1942 in Elm City, (Wilson County) North Carolina. She is the youngest of eleven children born to Roman Lucas and Stella Greene Lucas both from Wilson County North Carolina. ‘Pearl’ as many friends and family would call her, graduated from Frederick Douglas High School, Wilson County North Carolina in 1960.

After Pearl’s high school years, she went to college in Elizabeth City, North Carolina for two (2) years. It was after attending college, she really missed being with her older sisters, since they had moved away. Pearl always believed in being with family, and she always maintained a close relationship with all of her family members since her childhood.

Pearl decided to relocate to New York City to live with and be closer to her older sisters. It was while living in the Bronx, New York is when she met her life-long partner and husband James Roland Jones. Through this union, Pearl and James had four beautiful (4) children: Karen, James Jr., Christopher, and Desmond. Pearl and James remained married for 54 years, until James passed away in 2019.

Pearl and James eventually moved back to their home state of North Carolina, to settle down in Greensboro and raise their family. Pearl always put her family first. Her children were her pride and joy, and she always boasted of how proud she was of them in everything they did. Pearl always made sure there was a reason to cook and have a family celebration for any and everything. Pearl’s home became a staple in the community, where many children and adults gravitated to, as she opened her doors and made all feel welcomed.

As Pearl’s love for children was extended into her community, this motivated her to operate her own business and become a certified Day Care owner. Pearl was well known to take care of many children for many years. As these neighborhood children have grown up and moved on, the children, their families, and many friends would still come back to always visit Pearl regularly, and let her know they remember and will always love her.

Lucy Pearl Jones is preceded in death by her parents Roman Lucas and Stella Greene Lucas, her siblings: Nana Mae Lucas, Lula Mae Lucas, George Thomas Lucas, Wesley Lee Lucas, Roman (Romie B) Lucas, Mary Cleo Lucas Evans (Jimmy), Lonnie Edward Lucas, and Nellie Lee Lucas Richards (Alfred).

Lucy Pearl Jones is survived by: her sisters Dorothy Elizabeth Lucas Glover (Robert), Doreatha (Nunk) Lucas Murrain (Kenneth), her children Karen Renee Jones, James Roland Jones, Jr. (Phoebe), Christopher Maurice Jones (Melissa), and Desmond Lamont Jones (Shannon), her grandchildren Madeline Jones Puckett (Braxton), Justin Jones, Aaron Lamarr Jones, Kenya Lasha Jones, Christopher Maurice Jones II, Desmond Jones, Jr., her adopted grandchildren Heaven Elizabeth Jones, Bella Rose Jones, Raeana Marie Salseda, Elijah-Ray Eric Salseda, Alicia Ann Rodriguez, her great grandchildren Zaire Jones, Jailyn Coley, Reagan Puckett, Marley Puckett, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, best friends, neighbors, and local community.

Regardless of the health issues that Pearl faced, she always was kind, loving, had a positive attitude, gave a kind word, and blessed us with her beautiful spirit. Lucy Pearl Jones will always be loved, truly missed, and never forgotten.

As a young boy growing up, Luck Pearl was the sister that I never had. We were cousins but we acted like sister and brother. We grew up together and she was the first of my relatives to meet and approval of my future bride. I was there when she meet James - her husband. I asked everyone to keep Pearl in your memory because I will!

Ms Pearl, I will NEVER forget the way you've made me feel. I've never felt more loved and accepted as I do in this family. I will miss our 2 hour trips to Rainbow, you teaching me to make meatloaf, butterbeans and hocks. . . But most of all, the laughs, tears ( of both joy and sorrow) and talks we've had. I'll love you forever. Your "daughter in law" Shannon
