Celebration of Life for Ruben James Jones

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

A Time to Be Born… Ruben James Jones was born on March 14, 1944, to the parentage of the late John Henry Jones and Ella Mae Jones Weston in Dawson, Georgia. He was the fourth of twelve children. At a very tender age, his family migrated to Belle Glade, Florida. He lived and remained in Belle Glade until his death.

A Time to Love… Ruben’s union with Phyllis was parallel to the story of Ruth and Boaz. He loved Phyllis immensely. He lived to honor God and honor his wife, whose heart had been entrusted to his care. Through this union, he gained a daughter who blessed him with two granddaughters. His role of husband, father, and grandfather gave him the greatest joy in life.

A Time to Build… Ruben received his primary education in the Palm Beach County School system and graduated from Lake Shore Jr./Sr. High School in 1963. Throughout his life, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He worked for Hav-A-Tampa and Glades Music for over 20 years. Ruben had a desire to continue his education and learn a trade. He attended West Technical Education Center, receiving a certificate in Upholstery. During his leisure time, Ruben enjoyed upholstering furniture. Ruben later joined the crew at McArthur Dairy, where he worked until retirement in 2003. At an early age, Ruben accepted Christ as his Savior and fellowshipped with the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Lake Harbor under the leadership of the late Rev. Aaron Drayton. Ruben later joined the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.F. Hairston III.

A Time to Die… His mother, father, son (Ruben Wells), his brothers (Gene Jones and Rayford Jones), his sisters (Ossie Mobley and Ronell Thomas) preceded him in death. After 77 blessed years of life, God decided that Ruben had fought a good fight, and he had finished his course, and he had kept the faith. On Friday, August 27, 2021, God called him home as his family surrounded him. A job well done. A life well-lived. A reward well deserved. A precious jewel that was respected by his family and friends. A treasured gem that will never be forgotten.

A Time to Weep and Laugh… Ruben leaves a legacy of love and an abundance of fond memories in his devoted wife, Phyllis Jones; daughter, Cosha Jackson-Rease (Robert); 2 granddaughters, Taylor Allen and McKenzie Dixon; 5 brothers, Willard Jones (Deborah) of Greenacres, FL, Danny Key of Belle Glade, FL, Hazel Jones (Malinda) of South Bay, FL, Calvin Key (Lorraine) of Clewiston, FL, Kenneth Key of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 2 sisters, Bobbie Burton of South Bay, FL and Leatha Sneed of Clewiston, FL; 3 sisters-in-law, Ruth Geneva Hammonds of North Augusta, SC; Cathy Allen (Rodney) and Tia Alexander (Leroy) both of Belle Glade, FL; 3 special family members, Beulah Mae Durham and Wilbur Mincey both of Pahokee, FL and Ernest Hammonds of Aiken, SC; 3 God-children, Valquisha Williams, Berkell Baldwin, and Ruben Walker; a dear classmate and friend, Johnny Richard Edwards. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
