On December 10, 1959, Menzie Lee Garrett and his bride, Annie Calhoun Garrett, welcomed a daughter to their growing family.in Talladega, Alabama. She was given the name Annie Dorothy; however, those she had a personal relationship simply called her Dot.

Mrs. Welch committed her life to serving God and learned of Jesus’ teachings at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Her ministry led her to wear many hats throughout the years such as a choir member, director of the youth department and member of the kitchen committee. But by far, what could have been her most challenging, yet rewarding position at Mt. Moriah was standing in faith, strength and love next to her husband as the First Lady of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Annie was a graduate of Winterboro High School. Professionally, Dot worked at Campbell’s BBQ and as a certified nurse practitioner.at Alabama Industries for the Deaf and Blind. When Dot was not working, she could be found shopping, making home improvements, gardening, decorating, and feeding and caring for her family, friends and church members. You could also find her screaming “Roll Tide” on Saturdays in the fall.

Annie found love at an early age and on June 19, 1979, she and Percy A. Welch were united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with two children, Pervis and Temprestt. She remained a loving and dedicated helpmate, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend until the Lord whispered to her, “Well done.”

The Lord called Mrs. Welch home to rest on September 2, 2021. She was preceded in passing by her father, Menzie Lee Garrett; four brothers, Hugh Garrett, Jr., Menzie Lee Garrett, Jr., Jo Edward Swain and Langley Vestell Threatt; and grandfather, Charlie Calhoun.

Annie’s memory will live on in the heart of her husband of 42 years, Percy A. Welch of Talladega, Alabama; her loving mother, Annie C. Garrett of Talladega, Alabama; two children, Pervis E. Welch and Temprestt D. Welch of Talladega, Alabama; ten grandchildren, Madison, Makayla, Mariah, Mykel, Monti, Haylynn, Myeve, Mylah, Frank Jr. and Devyni; six sisters, Jackie Garrett, Rosie Garrett, Magnolia Garrett, Voncilla (Gerald) Braxton, Martha Keith and Vicky (Amos) Garrett all of Talladega, Alabama; seven brothers, Eartha Garrett of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Bruce (Pamela) Garrett of Talladega, Alabama, Larry Dean (Mary) Swain of Alpine, Alabama, Curtis (Teresa) Swain of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Terry Swain and Ricky (Stacey) Swain of Alpine, Alabama and Elder James E. Samuels of New Orleans, Louisiana; and a host of other relatives and friends.
