Obituary For Willard Childress

Willard “Chief” Childress, 80, of Danville, VA, departed this life on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Stanleytown Rehabilitation Center in Bassett, VA where he was a resident. He was born in Spring Garden, VA on August 14, 1941, the son of the late Ernest Toller and the late Lucy M. Childress.

In addition to his parents, Willard was preceded in death by his wife, Marva Robinson.

Willard retired from Marshall Concrete Company after many years of service.

Willard “Chief” knew no strangers and always had many funny stories to tell. He was blessed with many talents.

Willard leaves to cherish his memory, one brother, James & Patricia Childress of Chatham, VA; six children: Margaret Terry of Danville; Thelbert & Deen Childress of Danville; Wesley & Saronda Childress of Martinsville, VA; Melinda Childress and Tamara Childress both of Charlotte, NC; Rufus & Maya H. Simon of Danville, VA; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Bishop J.D. Mahan of Power for the Hour Ministries, Martinsville, VA and Pastor Wesley K. Childress Sr. of True Bread Worship Center, Martinsville, VA. Burial will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. A public viewing will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. Family and friends will be received at the home, 739 Indian Trail, Martinsville, VA 24112. We ask that all COVID-19 guidelines are followed.
