Obituary For Shamika Black

Ms. Shamika Latrese “Shoo” Black, departed this life on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. She was born on August 18, 1978 in Cleveland, NC to Linda Darnell Perry (Roscoe Perry) and Ronald Davenport.

Shamika was a 1996 graduate of Shelby High School. She was currently employed with Nestles in Gaffney, SC.

Shamika loved to shop and especially loved shoes. In addition to her love of fashion, she loved changing up her hair styles and wearing lip gloss. Shamika loved having a good time and enjoyed getting together with her coworkers after work, She loved to keep children. She loved to smile and take pictures. She loved to sleep. As a very outspoken person, she was the person you could always count on to come through in any given situation. She would always say she was 21! She also loved Lebron James.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bernice Davenport Sutton and Roosevelt Mathis; her maternal grandfather, David Mask; great-grandmother, Hester Black and her aunts, Mary Cooper, Bernita Wilson, Sylvia Fowler and Demetri Downs.

In addition to her parents, she leaves to cherish her memory to her three children, MonDarius Black, MonDrevius Black and Diamond McDowell all of Shelby, NC; one granddaughter, Zh’riya Montgomery; two sisters, Jalisa Perry of Cary, NC and Dejanria Boulware of Austell, GA ; one brother, Jarrick Homesley of Grover, NC; God-sister, Carla Lee; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Black; paternal great-grandmother, Connie Surratt; two nieces, Jamya Marion and Shaolin Nelson; a cousin who was like a brother, Gregory Wilson all of Shelby; her God-children, Devonte Green, Disel Green, Cameron Early, Autumn Early, MaKinnia Hill and Sy’mir Miller; her boyfriend, SirDonavon Paull; special friends, Demetria Weaver, Tiara Brown, Tonjana Brown, Tameka Addison, Kandy Brown and Brandy Towery and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Ms. Black will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. The service will be livestreamed on FaceBook starting at 11:15 AM. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the church and other times at 1320 Newton Street. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.
