Obituary For Alma Forney Hardy

Alma Forney Hardy, daughter of the late Claude Robert Forney and the late Marjorie Owens Forney, was born October 2, 1933 in Union Mills, NC. She departed this life on August 27, 2021 in Mansfield, Texas. Alma grew up in Union Mills, NC and graduated from Carver High School in Spindale, NC. She attended the LaMae Beauty College in Winston Salem, NC. While there she lived and worked with her late cousin Dorothy Hardy Whitfield who was a beautician at the school. Later in life she married the late Joseph (Joe) Hardy of Rutherfordton, NC. She was a member of Union Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Union Mills, NC, and she was the oldest member. Before her health declined she was on the Stewardesses Board. She was also a member of the Adult Missionary Society of which she was a life member. In earlier years she sang in the choir. Older members will also remember her as a good cook. One of her special dishes was candied yams. Alma was employed by Broyhill Furniture Factory for a period of time. However, most of her working years was spent as a domestic worker. She spent a great deal of time volunteering at Yokefellow in Spindale, NC. She had a keen sense of humor, but was frank in what she said. She loved working outside and had such a green thumb. It was as if the flowers magically grew for her. Another one of her hobbies was working in search and finding books which were good therapy for her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Rev. Sherman W. Forney and Ronnie A. Lynch, two sisters, Annie Forney Lynch and Reba Lynch Washington. She leaves to cherish her memories; one son, Juan Cash (Rhonda), of Mansfield, Texas, one daughter, Ruby Green (Morris) of Boiling Springs, SC, three grandchildren, Xavier Cash, Ashley Henson, and Alyssa Dowdy, three great grandchildren, Krislyn Lacy, Khloe Jeter, and Khylee Jeter, three sisters, Una Forney Conley an Carolyn Forney Lynch of Union Mills, NC and Clara Goode of Charlotte, NC, one brother, Ralph Forney (Cora Lee) of Atlantic Beach, Florida, her sisters-in-law, Alfrieda Forney and Sandra Lynch and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
