Obituary For Virginia H. Hairston

Virginia H. Hairston, 97, of Walnut Cove, died September 10, 2021. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 to 7:30 Tuesday, September 14,2021 at Perry- Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Rising Star Baptist Church, Walnut Cove, NC

Virginia was called to her heavenly home on September 10, 2021. She was born to the late Cora and Garfield Hairston, June 19, 1924. Her public - school education began at the colored school in Walnut Cove, which is now The Walnut Cove Senior Center, a historical site. White residing with relatives in Winston Salem, she attended Atkins High School. After graduation she continued her education at Winston Salem State University (Winston Salem Teachers College). She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education at the age of 18 years. Her teaching career expanded over 30 years. At the age of 19 yrs. She married the love of her life, Eugene F. Hairston, Sr. To this union four children was born, her pride and joy: Eugene Hairston, Jr. (Sandra), Jacqueline Jackson (Elvin), Michael Hairston (deceased) and Lou Wanda Hairston. She joined Rising Star Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until her death. She was a deaconess, president of the Missionary Circle, Usher and Choir member. She was also preceded in death by her husband, one son and seven siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, brother; Bobby Joe Hairston, nieces, nephews and her church family.
