Dr. Taylor was a Fierce Nurse for 40 years, a Missionary Evangelist Preacher, a Health Advocate, a Real Estate Mogul, a Philanthropist, PrayHER SlayHER, a CancHER OvercomHER and stroke FightHER.

Laverne M. Taylor was born on September 11, 1932, to the proud parents of Willie and Selena Meridith on the legendary Ripshin Road in Ellerslie, Georgia. Both parents preceded her in death.

Ripshin was home to African American families who were blessed to acquire land and build farms after slavery ended. These prosperous families raised their children together. They built homes, raised cattle, horses, and farmed their own land. These stories of African American history have been shared in the family over the years. Dr. Taylor and her husband have preserved the Henry and Katie Meridith Estate, which started out as 185 acres purchased by her grandfather Henry Meridy (aka Henry Meridith) on October 4, 1915, for $750. This property will be developed by his descendants.

“Feet” as she was affectionately called was one of ten children, four girls and six boys. She is survived by one sibling her baby brother Delano Meridith (IL). Ripshin was also know for the beautiful young ladies who lived there. The sisters Laverne, Patsy, Precious and Elizabeth were known for their brains, beauty, and brilliance. Shaped in the culture of the Great Depression, Laverne was an expert saver and wealth builder. She attended school in Ellerslie and obtained her nursing degree in her twenties. She served in hospitals across the country and internationally as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

On June 16 , at the tender age of twenty-four, Laverne married the love of her life, army soldier Dave Taylor, Sr. He would come a courting at her parent’s home. They have been married for 65 years and taught workshops on how to build a successful marriage.

To this incredible union, three beautiful children were born into their destinies: Major (ret.) Dave Taylor Jr., PastHER L. Renee Richardson, MBA, and Zachary Taylor, Ph.D. candidate. The children were born on United States and foreign soil. Dr. Taylor raised her children to love God and achieve tremendous levels of success through education, strong study habits, perfect attendance in school, higher education, continuous search for excellence. They travelled the world living in Baumholder, Germany, Lawton, Oklahoma, Frankfurt, Germany, Ellerslie, Georgia, Columbus, GA and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
