Obituary For Lula Mae Smith Sanchez

Lula Mae Smith Sanchez, daughter of the late Ellison Smith, Sr. and Estelle McFadden Smith was born on September 17, 1934 in New Zion, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ulysees Smith, Morris Smith, Sr., David Collins and Daniel Collins, two sisters, Rosa Lee Harris and Sarah Hammett and step-mother, Nora McFadden Smith. She received her education through the Lodabar Grammar School and attended Melina Parochial School through high school. During her youth, Lula was a very active member of Friendship Presbyterian Church. She will be fondly remembered as a cherished member of Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Christ in Bridgeport Connecticut where she served faithfully working for the Lord. Lula always had a smile, open heart and a word of comfort if you were in need. Lula Mae Smith Sanchez, departed this earthly life peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at St. Vincent Medical Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Rosetta Smith, Hodges, SC; two sons, Douglas Smith, New Haven, CT and Robert Smith, Bridgeport, CT; two grandchildren, Charles Smith, Ware Shoals, SC, Kyra Smith, Fountain Inn, SC; five great grandchildren, Samyra Smith, Ethan Smith and Ava Smith all of Ware Shoals, SC, Aniyah Williams and Camren Williams both of Fountain Inn, SC; two brothers, Ellison Smith, Jr., James (Ernestine) Smith both of Weight Lithonia, GA; one sister, Laura Timmons, Louis, DE; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Smith, New Port News, VA, Sue Collins, Sumter, SC, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

Public viewing was held from 4:00PM til 6:00PM Friday, September 24, 2021 at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church Street, Manning, SC.

Graveside services were held 3:00PM Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Friendship Presbyterian Church, New Zion, SC.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the family is not receiving visitors.
