Ella was educated at Wellington School on Johns Island and had a passion for reading. As a young woman she took on the responsibility of raising her young sister, Lilian, as her parents had passed away. She worked several years in housekeeping at Roper Hospital downtown. She was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church on Johns Island and instilled her love of Jesus in each of her children. She was devoted to her family and opened to her home and heart to everyone she met. Everyone who knew her, knew her as a sweet, kind-hearted, selfless peacemaker. Although her passing leaves a void, there is a peace in knowing she is in heaven, praising the Lord along side her husband, son, and great-grandson.
